New Zealand Squad For T20 World Cup 2023
Black Caps captain Ken Williamson and several other senior players were ruled out of the upcoming tours of Bangladesh and Pakistan on Tuesday as New Zealand’s focus is on the Twenty20 World Cup. New Zealand have confirmed their World Cup line-up in an extraordinary 32-member white ball squad to handle the heavy workload over the next four months. In addition to the World Cup in the UAE and the tours of Bangladesh and Pakistan, New Zealand also has a Test series in India with which the squad will be named next month.
New Zealand Cricket chief executive David White said the changing times demanded a change in strategy with the welfare of the players and supported one of the biggest challenges of professional sports, especially in the current epidemic environment. “The need to protect the well-being of our players and support staff is very real now, and we’ve been careful to handle their workload in this (this year’s) big game program,” White said.
“New Zealand players who were suspended in the Indian Premier League earlier this year will be allowed to rejoin their franchises when they resume in September.
